Round 1:
Both fighters come to the center firing off their right jabs. Jerome sneaks in a high kick and nice left straight. They start to box it out, and both actually land some decent shots. LeBanner pressures Musashi up against the ropes and unleashes with a strong combination, but the Japanese fighter seems to shrug it off and drives home a mid kick before the bell rings.
Round 2:
Musashi tries to land a spinning back fist early, but misses by quite a distance. It seems to annoy the Frenchman though, and he comes in hard with a combination that Musashi manages to bob and weave out of. There is an accidental head clash, and a brief stoppage for Musashi to recover.
Both fighters seem to be having trouble reading the other, and while they are landing the odd punch, but missing with most and the licks are very few and far between.
Round 3: LeBanner comes out much harder and he lands some heavy shots on Musashi. The retiring fighter is not giving up easily though, and he counters with some decent strikes himself. Unfortunately for him this seems to wake up the LeBanner of old, and the Frenchman goes in for the kill, quickly reintroducing Musashi to the mat.
After he gets to his feet, LeBanner does everything he can do you ensure this fight doesnft go the distance, but Musashi holds on by his finger tips until the final bell.
The decision is awarded to Jerome LeBanner.
-- It was supposedly Musashi's last fight.
Banner : It's too bad that this is the end of his career. Bye-bye!
-- Tell us about the fight.
Musashi : I trained to win, so I'm sorry I lost. But I'm satisfied with my performance.
-- Your strategy?
Musashi : My team decided that I should throw more kicks, but I have my own "Musashi-style" where I fight from outside and come in for points. I wanted to show that I can beat even Jerome LeBanner.I got into the ring feeling like it was my last challenge, but like Kyotaro I wanted to show that defeating these guys is not impossible. I went in to beat him.
-- So you didn't just want use your style, you wanted to show the next generation that Japanese can fight at the top level.
Musashi : Originally I wanted to win with speed and technique. If you're fast, your punch hits first. I wanted to show that if you use what you have than you can compete at the top level.
-- You formed a huddle with your team before the fight.
Musashi : I can't do it by myself. I asked my team for their help.
-- After the down, you smiled.
Musashi : I don't remember, but it was probably a grimace.
-- You said that you are planning to retire, but apparently Mr. Tanikawa wants to talk to you about the future.
Musashi : I don't people to think that I'm all talk. I'm not thinking about going back in the ring. It's what I decided. That's what the fans responded to. I'm not thinking about going back.
-- After the fight, LeBanner bowed his head and showed his respect.
Musashi : Personally I like him a lot. He's a brother-in-battle. I think he understood my motivation. I'm satisfied with my performance.
-- Did you accomplish something?
Musashi : I'm sorry that I didn't win. But the Japanese and Korean fans screamed their support and I heard it and felt glad to be here in Korea. I have no regrets.
-- Looking back at your K-1 career, what do you remember?
Musashi : I think of all the great fighters I fought with. Outside the ring we were all friends. They tried hard so I tried hard. That's what I remember.
-- Are you satisfied with your career?
Musashi : I'm still surprised that I've been doing this for 15 years. I could have had my career ended at any time. But I came this far thanks to my team and my friends. I have no regrets that I could battle with those friends in the ring. I'm very satisfied.
-- Your most memorable fight?
Musashi : I'll never forget the 2004 Final. I fought a total of 13 rounds! I thought I would die. I realized how tough it is to become world champion. Thank you.
